PALS is a major initiative by the IIT Alumni Center, Chennai, aimed at benefiting students and faculty of engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu.
PALS is in its seventh year now. It started as a series of motivational lectures given by IIT Alumni in the campuses of various engineering colleges in and around Chennai. The offerings have grown and evolved into the present format based on the feedback from the colleges, as well as from the changing market needs. The objective has all along been on enhancing the quality of engineering education and making students graduating from these institutions, industry ready.
To achieve this, PALS has tapped into the vast pool of expertise available within the IIT alumni community across the corporate, academic and entrepreneurial domains. The year round program covering Partner Institutions in Tamil Nadu features various events which target the students, teachers and management of such as insightful general and technical lectures by the
engineering colleges so that the focus remains on the objective. The benefits obtained by the engineering colleges from PALS over the years has been found to be proportional to the interest and involvement shown by each of them in the program.
To provide a unique experience in the sphere of engineering education to all its partner institutes, nurturing a holistic evolution of their teaching fraternity and student community.
To provide a platform
- Where the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the premier technical institutes of India to share their knowledge and resources with other colleges / institutes
- Where leaders in from any industry vertical can share their experiences and viewpoints
- Where students can bring out their potentials and technical prowess
- Where mutually beneficial dialogue between academia and industry can happen.
The different events organized are structured to address the needs of students, faculty and administrators of Engineering Education. This program enhances the job opportunities for the students, and makes them think for themselves and take informed decisions in life. Opportunities are created so that the rich and varied experiences of the IIT alumni are shared with the students and faculty of the Partner Institutes. Events are organized so that the faculty members get an opportunity to visit different industries, and also listen to senior people in that industry. Visits to different departments of IIT Madras are organised, where there is ample scope for interactions between faculty members of different institutions. Competitions are held to bring out the spark inside every student.
Needless to say it is the involvement of the members of the IIT AIIC, and the readiness with which the IIT Madras Administration comes forward to share its knowledge, expertise and resources with the engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu. The inputs from the faculty coordinators of the Partner Institutes and the enthusiasm of the student participants has helped us to come this far. Improvements on the content, schedule and execution of the programs are continuously done based on the feedback from all the stake holders.
